Music

We offer individual and small group music lessons at Sauncey Wood. Currently, children can learn a woodwind instrument of their choice or the violin. These lessons are taught by experienced music teachers from Musicale.

We use our weekly singing assembly to support and extend the music curriculum. The children all love singing a range of songs and we have whole school singing performances at each end of term assembly. Our children in EYFS listen and sing to nursery rhymes on a regular basis and all children have a bi-weekly music lesson which focuses on music appreciation and the key rudiments of music. We use the music scheme Charanga for all year groups and each unit of work in Charanga comprises of strands of musical learning which correspond with the national curriculum for music:

We have a flourishing KS2 choir who meet for rehearsals every week and have regular local performances at Batford Lights Up, Harpenden Spring Festival and the Rotary Carol Concert. Our KS1 children also have the opportunity to take part in the KS1 Music Festival
