Welcome to Year 6

Year 6 are taught by Mrs. Belizaire and the teaching assistants are Miss Mottley and Miss Andrews.

In their final year at Sauncey Wood children have a fun but busy year! Preparation for SAT’s and secondary school starts from the beginning of the year but amongst the hard work children have plenty of opportunities to be school role models and develop the essential life skills for the years ahead. Prefects and Anti-Bullying Ambassadors take on a greater importance by training up new year 5’s to the roles and supporting our newest and youngest members of the school in Reception. Children look forward to their week-long school residential and the end of year show. Post SAT’s, the children have a chance to hone their enterprise skills and launch a business- this is a popular way to make a bit of extra holiday pocket money!

In Year 6 we consolidate all the learning from the previous years. We use a wide range of exciting texts to plan and write extended pieces of writing from a variety of genres. The children will revise the spelling rules and patterns and will have opportunities to edit their writing to include a range of punctuation and vocabulary.

In Maths, we will revise key skills and will continue using problems and investigations to further deepen understanding of number, space and shape, geometry and data. Daily fluency sessions will continue to hone mental maths strategies and smaller group sessions will allow for targeted teaching where required
