Welcome to Rowan class

Rowan class is taught by Miss Brooks. The teaching assistants in Year 3 are Miss Humphries (Tues-Fri) and Miss Joyner (Mon). 

In Year 3 we aim to encourage the children’s independence. We continue to develop writing skills by using Herts Essential Writes and we start to hone the skill of editing. This allows the children to take ownership of their writing and produce some longer, more complex pieces of writing. In Key Stage 2, children start whole group guided reading sessions and read one longer book over one term. This allows us to discuss vocabulary and themes within a story as well developing the children’s comprehension skills.  

Maths fluency is key in Year 3! Children will begin to learn their times tables and we will use Times Tables Rockstars in school and at home to support this. Year 3 will consolidate written strategies for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division alongside regular fluency sessions for their mental skills.
