Welcome to Year One

Year 1 is taught by Mrs Down. The teaching assistants are Mrs Jackson and Miss Humphries.  

To ensure a smooth transition between Reception and Year 1, we include some elements of child led and initiated play in Year 1. We encourage the children to be inquisitive and curious learners and use their interests to develop independence across all areas of the curriculum. Phonics and the early reading skills are crucial in Year 1 and we promote a rich reading diet alongside daily phonic lessons. We teach phonics using the Twinkl scheme and writing is taught using the Herts Essential Writes scheme. Exciting topics are taught to develop the children’s understanding of the world around them and a love of learning!
