SEND

Welcome to our Special Educational Needs and Disability’s (SEND) page.  We understand that there is a lot of information around SEND and so if you would like any further clarification, please contact our Inclusion Lead, Jenny Byford.  Mrs Byford oversees the day-to-day operation of the school’s SEND Policy and co-ordinates the provision for children with a SEND.

Our school aims to provide a broad and balanced curriculum for all children. Some children have particular learning needs that could create a barrier to learning.  Children may have special education needs either throughout, or at any time during, their school career.  This policy aims to ensure that curriculum planning and assessment for children with inclusion or special educational needs takes account of the type and extent of needs experienced by the child.  This policy has been written to reflect our SEND Local offer, which can be found on the school website here

Please do contact Mrs Byford the School SENCo should you wish to discuss anything in regards your child/ren and SEND at Sauncey Wood.  She can be contacted through the school senco@saunceywood.herts.sch.uk email address or the school phone number 01582 621514.

Sauncey Wood Speech and Language Base

Sauncey Wood Speech and Language Base provides additional provision for children across years 3 to 6 who are identified as having speech and language needs.  These children will all have their own Educational Health Care Plans.  They are taught within a small group in the base environment for Maths and English in the mornings and join the mainstream class with adult support in the afternoons.  The base is managed by a specialist teacher and supported by highly trained teaching assistants.  The curriculum is highly differentiated and linguistically modified to meet the children’s needs.  The children are also supported by a Speech and Language Therapist who delivers specialised therapy work on a weekly basis.

The Base class is called Willow and more information can be found on Willow's class page.
