Maple's Musings-  Welcome to Year 4

I hope you have all had a fun filled summer holiday and that you are ready to come back to have even more fun at school.  We will be writing quest stories and persuasive texts in English and we will be focussing on place value then addition and subtraction in Maths, this half term. I am looking forward to teaching you all about the Anglo Saxons in History but we will also be learning about lots of other exciting things this half term too.  Please have a look at our knowledge organisers to find out more.  We will work hard and have lots of fun!  It will be Christmas before we know it!

This term, we will be:

In English, we will be xploring narrative writing, persuassion and poetry.  In Maths, Timetables are key to success, so please practice lots!  We will also be focusing on place value, addition and subtraction, area and multiplication and division.  In Science, our learning will cover the digestive system and animals including living things.  We will be exploring the works of Henri Matisse and drawing in response to a story.  D+T will see us design and make Viking foodand we will explore gym and rugby in PE.  Harvest and Mamma Mia will be our Music topics.  We will be exploring deeper into the Christian fith adn celebrating our differences and exploring our world in PD.  In computing, E-safety will be our foucs along with learning to code.

Recommended Reads for Year 4

What do I need at school?​

  • Water bottles – you child will need a water bottle every day

  • A healthy snack for break times- no nuts- please refer to our Healthy Schools policy for guidance

  • Reading books and reading logs -  to be brought in everyday

  • A pencil case with list if resources as shared at meet the teacher

  • Coats - we will be going outside in all weathers so please bring a coat every day

  • PE Kit – a fully named PE kit should be at school every week.  Please remember that all jewellery must be removed for PE lessons.

  • Home learning books to be sent in every Monday

  • A hat in hot weather

  • Old shirt or painting apron – for painting and craft

  • Library books
