School Improvement Committee 4th November 2014

The School Improvement Committee, members of which are Liz Redway (chair), Emma Robinson, John Burt, Caroline Thomas, Helen Parkinson and Ryan Hockley met on 4th November 2014.

Items considered included a review of recent changes made to the way OFSTED inspect schools and the implications those changes might have here at Sauncey Wood. Mr Burt spoke about the three key priority areas that the staff and governors are focussing on this year to further improve the school. These are based on the OFSTED report written after our inspection in March which can be found by clicking here.

We also looked at several school policies including anti – bullying and equal opportunities. If you are interested, remember all school policies are available to parents/carers, please just ask at the school office.

Finally, our thanks to Kathryn Chamberlain for her hard work as a community (or co-opted) governor. Due to a recent promotion at work, Kathryn has decided to step down from the governing body. If you know anyone who is not a parent/carer at the school with a little free time, please do mention that there is a vacancy available and they can call Mr Burt on 01582 621514 for further information. Resources Committee Meeting 23 September 2014.

The governors were given updates on health & safety, school finance, and staffing. It was noted there have been some significant improvements to the fabric of the school over the past year including new windows and the exterior having being painted over the summer holidays. The infant playground needs improvement and there was a discussion around the most suitable options. There was also a discussion around the challenges of providing extra school meals with the introduction of free school meals for KS1, however there was confidence that any initial teething problems could be ironed out easily.
